Corpus Christi Early Childhood Center is part of Corpus Christi School, which is accredited by the Virginia Catholic Education Association. The Early Childhood Center is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Social Services. The Early Childhood Center is operated under the direct supervision of the Director of the Early Childhood Center and the Principal of Corpus Christi School. An educational staff consisting of teachers, instructional assistants and day care providers is maintained to provide a ratio of 1 to 10 for 3 year olds and 1 to 12 for 4 year olds. Staff members are chosen on the basis of their concern for children, their training, and their commitment to the ministry of Christ. See our Director's Message for information about current activities. Preschool Curriculum

Preschool eases the transition between home and school. Our Catholic program strives to ensure a creative learning environment for the young child. Most of all we strive to teach our children Christian values in a nurturing, play-based environment. Students will develop social skills that will help them as they move on to kindergarten.

The preschool program uses a multi-sensory hands on learning approach to teach fine motor skills, auditory and visual learning using cassettes, books, songs, computers, and art. Free play, story time, show and tell, music, crafts, and outdoor play fill the students’ morning. Music class is offered weekly.  Computers, games and manipulative toys are used to teach the pre-reading readiness skills of number, shape and letter recognition.

Children attend prayer services, participate in community service projects and are provided many cultural arts activities supported by the school’s PTO.

Kindergarten Curriculum

Students are taught an academic curriculum as well as social and moral values.

Our kindergarten is a phonetically-based program supplemented by literature. Reading readiness is enhanced by development of oral language and understanding of sound/letter relationships. The curriculum includes reading, math, writing readiness, social studies, science, religion, and safety. Each classroom has computers with educational software that are integrated into the curriculum. As part of our religion program, our students participate in daily prayer and attend mass on holy days.

The students receive weekly classes in physical education, art and music by the elementary campus specialty teachers. Kindergarten students participate in the elementary campus’ Christmas pageant, poetry contest and art fair.

Social development includes teaching manners, courtesy, working together, helping others, schoolwork habits, and field trips.
