Job Title:
First Grade Teacher

Location:
Elementary School Campus

Years at Corpus Christi:
Thirty-five wonderful years
What is your title and responsibilities for the school?
I am the first grade teacher and the reading coordinator for the school, order all the books for the school, Poetry Contest coordinator, Innisbrook fundraiser chairperson, and the "Sunshine Committee". I also am responsible for writing the annual Diocesan goals and objectives and I am on the local Diocesan Curriculum Mapping committees.

Where have you worked previously?
I worked for the government every summer from when I was a senior in high school until I graduated from college. I worked one year for an educational consulting firm before I started teaching.

Where were you born (city and state/country) and live as a young child?
Bremerhaven, Germany. My father was a career Army officer and we lived in a lot of different places.

Where did you attend elementary school and secondary school, and were you involved in any extracurricular clubs or sports?
I went to 12 different schools - including 4 different high schools - around the US and in Korea and Germany beginning in Utah and graduating from Edison HIgh School in Alexandria, Virginia.

What high-school or college did you attend?
I went to Frankfurt American Junior HIgh for 9th grade, Frankfurt American High School for 10th grade (both of these schools are in Germany), Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island for 11th grade, and graduated from Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia.

Do you have family in the area?
I have been married for 35 years. My husband and I are both very active in the life of the school. Even though we have no children of our own, all my past, current, and future students are "my children" and have a special place in my heart.

What are your hobbies and interests?
I love to read, shop, collect artist bears and love animals of all kinds.

What is your educational philosophy?
The most important part of my philosophy is to make sure that my students like school and leave each day feeling a little better about themselves. I make every attempt to make learning fun and to help my students understand that mistakes are are okay because we all make them. If students feel good about themselves and are not afraid to make a mistake, then everything else falls into place and learning becomes fun and exciting.

Corpus Christi School is not just my place of employment -- it is part of my life. Many of our friends are students (former and current) and their families. This school family will always have a very special place in my heart.
