A "celebration of generations" occurred on May 1st, when a multitude of grandparents spent the day with their grandchildren at Corpus Christi School's Early Childhood Center. This annual event invited grandparents (and parents) to join their grandchildren for a day of learning, shared activities, dancing, singing and, of course, juice and cookies.

Mrs. Fry, director of the Early Childhood Center, explained that while the event has become more popular each year, "For the first time this year, families had the option of sitting for a professional portrait. The school's photographer- Splendid Portraits- were responsible for the photo shoot. Many took advantage of this special way to commemorate the event."

Grandparents were then introduced to their grandchild's teachers and they learned about the topics the children had learned through the year. Everyone was entertained by the song or dance presentation that each class had prepared and grandparents got to work on a shared art project with their grandchildren.

All attendees were invited to participate in the "Tooti-Tah", a stretching exercise song involving the tongue. Mrs. Fry explained "This fun song is used by Mrs. Brown's Kindergarten to release muscle tension and clear the mind before work."

Also for the first time, door prizes were given out to the grandparents who had traveled the farthest, as well as to those with the most grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Fry's own mother held the record for the day with 28!

The day's activities culminated with snacks in the cafeteria and shared time with friends with enough memories to last a long time for both students and grandparents alike. With many grandparents coming to the event from out of state, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Massachusetts and Texas, this event has become more popular each year it is offered. Be sure to mark your calendars for early May next year and plan to be part of this great event.
