Elementary School: Grades 1-5

Specialized instructors in art, music, library, computers, Spanish, and physical education supplement instruction by their classroom teachers. Technology integration is achieved through project-based learning.

In language arts, children progress from basic writing skills to full expression, from ability to read to a love of reading. They receive continuing instruction in grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation and are also exposed to increasingly challenging literature in a full range of writing styles, topics and cultures. Manipulatives are used in mathematics to facilitate concept development and logistical reasoning, and to apply mathematics to problem solving. Grade by grade, students' knowledge and skills become more sophisticated.

Middle School: Grades 6-8

Students learn time management skills, gain self-confidence and ultimately are prepared in every way for quality high schools. In Middle School, students move to separate classes for instruction by subject specialists. Middle Schoolers continue to pursue accelerated curricula in math, science (laboratory courses), and English. Special events include a Diocesan Science and Technology Fair and Ellis Island simulation. Technology integration is achieved through project-based learning.

In language arts, students learn to apply and refine writing, critical thinking and analytic skills across academic studies. They also write original stories, poems and essays. Social sciences are studied in year-long themes: American history in fifth grade, world culture and geography in sixth, world history in seventh and American government and the Constitution in eighth.

Overview of School Services

Technology
Technology is fully integrated into the curriculum through project-based learning. Project-based activities emphasize learning that is long-term, interdisciplinary, student-centered and integrated with real world issues and practices. This is done because it helps students to make real life connections as to why learning the content is important.

Corpus Christi's facility is a fully networked technology infrastructure which includes:
  • high speed internet access,
  • computers in every classroom (Early Childhood, Lower, and Middle School),
  • digital and video cameras for our in school broadcasting,
Please click here to read more about our school video broadcasting program.
  • Interactive white boards which are integrated with computers and scanners for interactive learning for students in a unique environment.

Library
Classes are designed to help students understand and enjoy the resources available to them in a library. Weekly visits by children provide opportunities to enjoy a variety of literary genres, become familiar with authors and illustrators, and receive introductory instruction in library and research skills. Skills are practiced and applied to classroom projects. Older students make extensive use of the library for research projects and to select books for enjoyment.

Corpus Christi School library offers an extensive collection of thousands of volumes of reference, nonfiction and fiction as well as periodicals, multimedia research capabilities and a publishing center.

Fine Arts
Enthusiasm for fine arts permeates every corner of our school. At all grade levels our program emphasizes theory, appreciation, creativity and skill. Often integrated with academic studies, fine arts are both a tool and a focus of learning. Winter and Spring Concerts, the choir and our annual art show in the spring are only a few of the creative outlets available to students.

Music
Specialized music instruction is provided weekly. Students learn rhythm and elements of music theory in our music studio. Throughout their education, students are introduced to music from other cultures and historic periods.

Arts
Corpus Christi's arts curriculum unleashes personal creativity and familiarizes students with great art through the ages. Subjects from dinosaurs to hieroglyphics to Medieval Europe are explored in projects.

Extended Hours
Available 7:00-8:00 a.m. and 3:20-6:00 p.m., the program allows students opportunities for play, study, rest, reading and homework. During these hours, children are supervised by our teachers and staff.
