Fighting Heart Disease by Jumping Rope

5/01/09
On Friday, May 1st, over 300 elementary and middle school children at Corpus Christi School raised money and awareness to help fight heart disease by jumping rope. The annual "Jump Rope for Heart" event, sponsored by the American Heart Association, brings together students, faculty and families in a fun and educational format to provide research funding for this deadly disease.

The students got into the spirit of things by jumping alone and in groups, on their feet and even on their hands while break-dancing. The event was kept lively with music provided by Ultrasound DeeJays who played upbeat songs and music perfect for jumping and dancing. Originally scheduled to be an outside event, the day's rain did not cooperate and the event was quickly moved into the school's gymnasium.

Since the program started at Corpus Christi over ten years ago, the students, faculty and parents have jumped rope more than 500,000 times and have raised over $45,000 for research into fighting heart disease. This year, about $4,000 was raised in this single event thanks to the hard work of the Corpus Christi School family.

Miss Z (Susan Zaycosky, Corpus Christi's Physical Education Teacher) is very pleased to be able to present this year's check to the American Heart Association. "Even though it rained, this turned out to be a fun activity. Not only did everyone have a great time, but money was raised to help find a cure for heart disease."
