Director's Message

Preschool is an increasingly important part of a child's early development that eases the transition between home and school. Corpus Christi's Early Childhood Center strives to develop a sense of excitement, discovery, and joy of learning among all students. At the ECC, our theme-based instruction is developmentally appropriate with particular attention given to the pre-literacy skills, letter recognition and proper handwriting skills.

Our educational staff consists of licensed teachers, instructional assistants and day care providers, providing a maximum ratio of 1:10 for all preschool students. Staff members are chosen on the basis of their professional development training, their ability to provide compassionate care for children and their commitment to the Christian philosophy.

Computers, crafts and manipulative toys are used to teach developmentally appropriate concepts of number, shape and letter recognition. In addition, all students attend prayer services, participate in community service projects and enjoy regular cultural arts assemblies. A catered hot lunch is provided for all daycare students daily and preschool snacks are provided in the cost of tuition.

Our Kindergarten offers phonetically-based instruction supplemented by whole-language literature. Reading readiness is enhanced by the development of oral language and understanding of sound and letter relationships. The curriculum also includes math, writing, social studies, science, religion, and safety. Each classroom has computers with educational software that are integrated into the curriculum.

Kindergarten students receive weekly classes in physical education, art and music. They also participate in Corpus Christi's Christmas pageant, poetry contest and art fair. Kindergarten classes enjoy curriculum-based field trips designed to further the academic subjects explored in the classroom and Kindergarten students have the option of riding the shuttle bus to and from the Early Childhood Center from the Elementary Campus to help in transportation options for busy parents. Before and after school care is available for all students through our day care and extended day programs.
