Spirited old favorites and original good time songs performed with a toe tapping country flavor. That is what musicians John Kirk and Trish Miller brought to Corpus Christi School this past week as they played folk music songs to our preschoolers and kindergartners. These talented musicians introduced the students to another genre of music in a fun and educational manner. The music was so engaging and the lyrics are so inviting that the kids wanted to jump up and participate. Over the past month, students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Corpus Christi School memorized a poem to present to their class. This was in preparation for the annual Poetry Contest, held last week, which left many of us wondering if it is better to be in a muddle by sitting in a puddle of mud or to be one inch tall and ride a worm to school. Finalists were chosen from each homeroom based on poem choice, diction, memorization skills and props or costumes who then competed in the school-wide Poetry Contest in front of their peers, parents, teachers and friends. The poetry contest is often a student's first opportunity to stand on stage and talk before a large crowd. Click here to read the full story.
